If you want to upgrade your computer to take advantage of the new USB 3.0 standard, but you’re holding out until prices become a little less astronomical, then you’ll possibly be waiting until next year (2012), failing the appearance of a packaged USB 3.0 card in your Xmas-stocking. Having said that, though, there is an online outlet selling USB 3.0 PCI-e cards at very reasonable prices.
Chinavasion is full of cheap Chinese crap at knock-down prices. – And as you probably know; most things from China are cheap crap, except for one thing and that is their electronic circuitry. – OK it’s not top-of-the-range, granted; and you’d get better quality from, say, Korea, but it’s passable. – I know because, when I built computers as a business, I used to use Chinese-made PCI-e RAID-cards, PCI Ethernet-cards, PCI to SATA/e-SATA cards, etc, and I never had a single one of them malfunction and cause me to accept a return under warranty.
The drawback is this: If you want it fast then either go live in China or go collect it yourself. – Otherwise, if you live in somewhere like the UK or the USA, for instance, delivery will take weeks. Also, as usual, these products are cheaper for the USA than they are for the UK. Yep; same product from same supplier, but cheaper in the USA. Why? Well from what I can assume, we Brits are getting an international reputation for being a bunch of thugs and mugs. – Our own industry rips-off the British consumer, who pays up anyway and then moans about it to their friends and family, as if that’s going to help in any way whatsoever. Meanwhile British men in general (and some of the women too) continue to wreak havoc on other countries in a series of drunken binges everywhere they go, abroad or at home. – Then when they finally manage to sober up for a brief instant they wonder why foreigners think that they’re morons. – So to me it appears that non-Brits have clubbed together and decided t0 “rip-off the stupid drunken Brits who rip each other off and won’t notice if we do the same. (+ it’ll help pay for the cost of their drunken vandalism in our country.)”
Anyway, that aside, you won’t get much if at all cheaper from another supplier at time of writing. Also if you want to go the cheapo-route and give crap birthday or Christmas presents then this is an ideal money-saving source. I’m not saying that you should or that it’s really ethical to do so; but if you do then it’s your decision. Here is the link for the USB 3.0 cards – You have to buy 2 at nearly £30 for the pair at time of writing if you live in the UK: ‘Possibly double the price that the Americans have to pay, but life’s a bitch.
- Enjoy USB 3.0 and use it… They reckon it’s about 10 times faster than USB 2.0, which to be truthful can seem rather slow if transferring a lot of data.
Do YOU use USB 3.0 yet? Have you tried it? What do you think of it or about it? Please do leave a comment. Thanks.

I agree ordering parts directly from China, is for the people with patience. I ordered a pcie network card and it took 5 weeks. Although I have to admit it was the best priced card. I also agree that prices will definitely come down next year although prices aren’t that high at the moment either.
Thank you for your comment Max.
It’s true that prices aren’t exactly astronomical at this point, but unless you’re having to order for customers’ machines; China is the place to go for now, as I think we both agree.
