Is This Blog Becoming More of a Niche-Blog?

*The author's details are shown below the article.

Every time I return to this blog in order to write a new article, helping you, the reader and PC user, to get the most from your computer; I ask myself this question: -

“Is this website becoming more and more redundant from a technological standpoint as far as modern technologies are concerned?”

Why do I ask this?

Well you see, the PC is becoming a thing of the past, to a greater and greater extent as time goes by. Us geeks will always have and seek to further optimise a PC no doubt, into infinity, ad infinitum – quite possibly. – But the average computer-user, Joe or Jill Bloggs, who are in a more numerously-populated market-sector than the average geek, tend to see things a little differently.

You see the average consumer doesn’t really care about the details of the underlying technology behind any computers that they use. All they care about is that the gadget works and that it works instantaneously and reliably anytime they need to use it: They want it all to be a no-brainer, as in when they turn on a tap, they expect water to flow out of it . When they press the button on the TV remote control, they expect their TV to respond instantly.

So when it comes to the PC, the average consumer often sees it as unreliable, slow and frustrating . Most of the time, the PC works without a problem; but it does have a frequent habit of regularly crashing, going tits-up, and producing unexpected and ultra-geeky-looking error messages – which generally serve to further confuse the user, who tends to have brain in neutral yet expectations on full. As a result of this the PC appears to the consumer to be unreliable, slow and frustrating. The consumer wants his or her electronic gadgets to be as reliable and instantaneous as his or her other everyday appliances are, without any unwanted surprises.

And as a result, Apple have developed a technology originally pioneered by Microsoft, namely the tablet PC, following the success of their iPhone; both of which bring touch-screen computing without the fuss: No geeky stuff, no messing – They just “work”. – Yes they are currently nowhere near as functional as a PC; but that will no doubt be changing in the not-so-distant future…

So maybe this blog is indeed becoming more and more of a niche-blog as time marches on? – A blog serving the shrinking niche of PC-users. – I’m not saying that PC users will ever die out: I’m sure that as long as there are geeks there will always be PCs, and vice-versa.

I’d be interested to hear your thoughts on this matter – so please do leave a comment.
