To many this question might appear rather academic, but it’s a fair question which I’m sure a number of people have asked in the past, and it merits an answer, as well as providing me with some less-complicated material to write. – (Lazy bloggers rule OK!)

In short then; the answer is no? I’m not going to get extremely techno-geeky here and delve into the properties of 32 and 64-bit in depth: It’s lazy-blogging day, and Google is your friend.

- But I will expand a little on that: -

Extremely ultra-basically; 32-bit consists of 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, and 32 – whereas 64-bit consists of 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64. ‘Notice the difference? – There are 6 digits up to a maximum of 111111 (63 in base 10) in 32-bit, and 7 digits up to a maximum of 1111111 (187 in base 10) in 64-bit. That’s a very poor example – bordering on crappy – but it’ll do in this case: -

If you have a 32-bit processor, capable of handling up to 63, and try to run an operating system which requires a processor capable of handling up to 187, it just won’t work.

I have to say that that is probably the worst example that I’ve ever given of anything in my entire blogging career, and I’m sure that some others will agree with me, but it’s good enough, to my mind, in that it proves the point.
