Heyya.
Today we’re back on a technical theme; well programming to be more specific.
I found a little Visual Basic script which you may find rather useful if you’re a Windows user.
I’d better include copyright information at this point: –
This script: –
‘ Creates a SR point during the first startup of the day
‘ Date of coding: December 18, 2005
‘ For Windows® XP
‘ © 2005 Ramesh Srinivasan
‘ Website: http://windowsxp.mvps.org
(If the script’s coder mentioned above objects to me publishing the script in the manner I have, then just drop me a line and I’ll alter the layout of this post.)
As you may know; Windows automatically creates the odd System Restore point as it runs by default. However the intervals that it does so are as good as random to most users. – It’s difficult to predict exactly when Windows is going to create another Restore Point
This VB script that I’ve popped into a .vbs file, written specifically for Windows XP, removes some of that randomness by ensuring that XP creates a daily System Restore point as soon as it first boots up.
Here is the link to download the .vbs file.
Download it to somewhere you can easily find it; such as your desktop, and then pop it into your startup folder at the following location on your local machine: –
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
The script checks if any System Restore points have already been created for the current day. If no System Restore point exists for the current day, the script creates a new System Restore point.
*Please scan the .vbs file you download with your antivirus software. Obviously I’m not going to deliberately give you a file with a virus in it: I have a reputation to keep up. – But it is possible that someone could have hacked my server while I wasn’t looking and inserted a virus into the file. (It has happened to other bloggers before now.) If you have any reasonable doubts about this file after downloading then please delete it immediately and drop me a line in the comments below. I seriously don’t want to be involved in distributing malware, and any threat to people’s online security that invades this blog is a matter that will be taken most seriously.
Original source material. – Use this link if you don’t trust my file for whatever reason. – Follow the instructions there.
